About Meeuw

My name is Albin Meeuwisse, a composer and musician born 1998 in Nacka, Sweden.

In my studies so far I have explored many genres and instruments, but it is in writing for the piano where my true passion lies.

My biggest inspiration in music is Armenian jazz pianist

Tigran Hamasyan, who opened the door for me to the world

of odd time signatures and polyrhythms.

The introduction of Tigran's music has set me on a path to truly challenge myself, both in composing and performing. The tender and emotional use of dynamics paired with the overwhelming complexity of rhythm is what gives life to his music, as well as the music I aspire to create.

Most of my journey through music has been spent as an instrumentalist, starting early with me learning various children's program tunes by ear on the piano. I have always had a strong connection to music, but it wasn't until 2018, when I started writing music myself, that I finally found a purpose for it. All my years exploring different genres, different instruments and different environments lead to me becoming a composer. Even though I've had my ups and downs, it has all contributed to me being who I am today, and the kind of music I write.

I've never had the discipline to become a great instrumentalist, I've been

too lazy for all the technical practice that goes into it, which is one of the reasons I'm writing music, but it has also pushed me to become a multi-instrumentalist. When I play an instrument and get to the point where I need to work on scales and such, I loose all interest and move on to another instrument instead. That's the reason for my collection of instruments. Excluding the smaller percussive ones, my collection adds up to 38 instruments.

However even though I've focused a lot more on composing these past years, I'm still very much in love with playing and expressing music in all forms. In addition to playing my own pieces, I have also recently started a band that plays original music. It's a fun change of pace to write songs rather than pieces so to speak, as well as to play in the band myself, something I haven't done since high school. I try to switch up what instrument I play between songs, and we're having a blast just experimenting and blending different genres.

As of right now, I'm studying composition full time in Örebro, and try to record my music whenever the opportunity presents itself.
